Get Moving to Manage Stress

We are right in the middle of the summer and this can lead to a stressful time, especially if you have kids off school for 6 weeks! But don’t worry, if you add more exercise into your life and that includes exercise for your children too, the stress will be a thing of the past and you can enjoy the time off together.

Virtually any form of exercise from aerobics to yoga can act as a stress reliever.  A little exercise can go a long way toward stress management.

Exercise increases your overall health and your sense of well-being which puts a spring in your step every day. But exercise also has some direct stress-busting benefits:

  • It pumps up your endorphins.  Physical activity bumps up the production of your feel-good chemicals.  So get the push bikes out with the kids, or have a rousing fun game of tennis with them. Even a simple hike through the woods can contribute to this feeling.
  • It s a form of meditation. Once you have started that game of tennis or swam a few lengths of the pool you will have forgotten the days irritation and will have concentrated only on your bodys movements. Exercise really does have a calming effect and can make everything appear a lot clearer.
  • It improves your mood. Regular exercise can increase self-confidence and lower the symptoms associated with depression and anxiety.  It also can improve your sleep which is often disrupted by stress.

All of these exercise benefits relate to yourself and also to your children.  So try and incorporate lots of exercise over the summer school holidays and make it a stress free happy time together!
