Stewing beef

 Half a pint of beer

4 onions

4 bacon rashers

2 tbsp flour

Half pint or beef stock

1 tbsp brown sugar

2 tsp mustard




Cut the beef into strips. Tip into a bowl and cover with the beer and marinate for at least an hour. Peel the onions and cut into rings, dice and add the bacon. Fry the onions and bacon until golden. Put the onions and bacon into a casserole dish. Stir the flour into the remaining fat in the pan, add the stock and bring to the boil.. Stir well as the sauce thickens.

Tip the beef and beer into the pan and blend with the sauce. Heat for a few minutes together with the sugar, seasoning and mustard. Spoon into the casserole dish. Top with parsley and a lid, Cook for 2 hours on gas mark 3. Serve with jacket potato and green vegetables.
